Products
We have researched many “natural” cleaning products and discovered that many “natural” products are not natural at all. The word “natural” is undefined and unregulated by the government and can be applied to just about anything! Because no standards exist, claims such as “nontoxic”, “eco-safe, and “environmentally friendly” are meaningless, according to Consumers Reports. A REAL “natural” product will include grain alcohol instead of toxic butyl cellosolve as a solvent; coconut or other plant oils rather than petroleum in detergents; and plant-oil disinfectants such as eucalyptus, rosemary, or sage, rather than triclosan. Petroleum Distillates are highly flammable and suspected carcinogens. Triclosan is proven to cause liver and kidney damage. For more on this subject, read the article called “What’s Under Your Sink?“.
After several months of research, we have decided to use cleaning products from Ecosafeproducts, based in Newport Beach, California. These products are a new generation of cleaners, comprised solely of agents derived from naturally occurring, renewable, biodegradable resources. They use a combination of surfactants, sequestrants, and wetting agents that are manufactured from vegetable oils and fats such as coconut, palm, corn and soybeans. These products are rapidly and completely biodegradable, yielding carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). They contain NONE of the following ingrediants, which are found in some of the most popular brands of cleaning products:
Chemical | Associated Danger |
---|---|
Ammonia | Fatal when swallowed |
Ammonium Hydroxide | Corrosive, Irritant |
Bleach | Potentially fatal if ingested |
Clorine | Number one cause of poisonings in children |
Formaldehyde | Highly toxic; linked to cancer |
Hydrochloric Acid | Corrosive, eye and skin irritant |
Hydrochloric Bleach | Eye, skin and respiratory tract irritant |
Lye | Sever damage to stomach and esophagus if ingested. |
Naphtha | Depresses the central nervous system |
Nitrobenzene | Causes skin discoloration, shallow breathing, vomitting, and death |
Perchlorethylene | Damages liver, kidney and nervous system |
Petroleum Distillates | Highly flammable, linked to cancer, non-renewable |
Phenol | Linked to cancer, fatal when swallowed |
Propylene Glycol | Depresses immune system, main ingredient in antifreeze |
Sodium Hypoclorit | Can be fatal when swallowed |
Sodium Laurel Sulfate | Carcinogen, toxin, genetic mutagen |
Sodium Tripolyphosphate | Irritant |
Trichloroethane | Damages liver and kidneys |
With all this information we’ve had for years, it’s absolutely astonishing that these harmful products are still on the shelves at your local grocery store! It’s obvious that we need laws to protect us from the dangers of these chemicals. Cleaning products are not subject to the same rigid standards that the FDA uses for food and drugs. Manufacturers can basically used any chemical they want to, and THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO LIST THE INGREDIENTS ON THE PACKAGING! So, when you purchase a “natural” product off the shelf, there is no guarantee that the ingredients in that product are safe. ECOSAFE PRODUCTS, on the other hand, meet OSHA standards for for being hazard-free: non-caustic, non-corrosive, non-flammable, and non-fuming. We believe these plant-based products are the finest, environmentally safe household cleaners availabe anywhere.
